For a long time I've wanted a fretted instrument with piezo pickups. In fact, ever since I first heard Steve Swallow playing his custom Parker bass on Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersens album "Uncharted Lands" sometime in the nineties. That sound has haunted me, so to speak, for years. So when this Surine six-string fretted instrument appeared on the used bass page at Luthiers Access Group, I had a long deep thought, and finally decided to buy it.

It's a neck through instrument, the neck is a 7-piece laminated with maple and purpleheart. The hollow body is mahogany, with a very nice rosewood top and back. Ebony fingerboard with 33 frets. A single Bartolini pickup and piezos in the ABM bridge. Great sound.

It used to belong to Chris Cardone.

I'm installing a Roland GK kit into this bass, so that I don't have to keep that big nasty GK-2B uglyfier on there. Details here.
