Some more photos from the work in progress.
I got started on the assembly just before the weekend, and took some shots last night.
Got some parts today, just to see if they'd fit together as I wanted them to.
I have been thinking about it for a while, about making a crane (or jib or whatever it is called) for my video camera. I figured, since my camcorder is small and light, it ought to be a not-impossible project to attempt. I have browsed this site homebuiltstabilizers and also checked out commercial cranes of various shapes and sizes. I discovered that even the simplest commercial crane (the ABC products Hebefix, 4.5 meters long) retailed for over NOK 30000 kroner (from VideoUtstyr) - without a remote camera head. So I thought about it and concluded that I should try and build my own, using readily available parts. I think I shall be able to score the materials for the crane itself for roughly NOK 3000 (one-tenth of the cost of the afore-mentioned Hebefix). Building starts, hopefully, within the week (week 4, 2004) and if I succeed in building the crane, I will try my luck on a remote head..... we will see.... So far I have only plans. And here they are (please pardon the filesizes of the full version drawings... iPhoto converted my nice png files to nasty jpg files before making the web pages... my apologies.).
